First Night Away and Family Fun Day

On Friday, mom and dad snuck away to Lake Geneva for a night. The weather was great and we had a really nice hotel room with a balcony overlooking the lake. Kayla stayed with Grandma and it was her first night away from her mommy. Fortunately, both mommy and Kayla survived being apart for one night. Of course we had to do some shopping for our little girl while we were out there :)

On Sunday, it was Family Fun Day at the neighborhood park. They had free soda and hot dogs, face painting, kids games and dancing, horse drawn wagon rides, and a teddy bear hunt. Grandma, Tricia, and her kids came along for the festivities. Kayla didn't appear to be too thrilled with the bumpy wagon ride but seemed to enjoy her little green dinosaur toy from the teddy bear hunt.

Friends in Milwaukee

Last weekend we drove out to Milwaukee to see some friends we used to work with that have also recently had kids. On Saturday we visited Adam, Jenny, and their son Simon (9 months). Kayla was super excited to see another little guy and she was laughing and screaming like a crazy person when they first saw each other. She even started to spank him at one point when he crawled past her :)

We spent Saturday night and Sunday with Kori, Dave, and their daughter Addison (13 months). Addison was a handful as she is now walking all over the place. The two girls had a great time "sharing" toys - I guess girls are like that at all ages ;)

An Ironwoman and the Brewers (anything but Ironmen)

On Sunday, we took Kayla downtown to State St. to see our friend Sara compete in the Ironman Triathlon. We first saw her about 13 miles into the marathon, having already swam 2.4 miles and biked for 112 miles. We saw her again at mile 14 and then at about mile 20. Surprisingly she was still smiling even the last time we saw her. Kayla also suprisingly lasted pretty well sitting around downtown for a few hours.

The next day mom and Kayla picked up dad after work to head out to Miller Park for Kayla's first Brewer game. We met our friends Linda and Dale at the game and had great tickets that mom had won in a raffle at a golf outing. Kayla was really excited when we first got to our seats and was smiling and looking all around at the giant stadium. Unfortunately the Brewers great bullpen blew yet another game in the 9th inning and the Brewers lost to the Reds. I am personally blaming the loss on the Packer fans who were up in the concourse and paying more attention to that game than the Brewer game - too focused on a football game when the Brewers really need the support.

Labor Day Weekend

For once we didn't have any plans for a weekend, and a long one at that. We didn't do much this weekend other than try to relax although we did make it out to the Taste of Madison Saturday, shopping on Sunday, and Grandma's for dinner on Monday. We did of course still manage to take a bunch of pictures of Kayla. Above are Kayla with Graham the Dog, Kayla teaching Daddy how to eat her tray, a couple pics at the Taste of Madison, and Kayla's first adventure going jogging with Daddy.

Wisconsin Dells

Last Wednesday, we took Kayla up to the Dells to meet with our friends Paul & Julie and their two kids (Anna 2, Alex 5.5 months). Paul's brother was also there with his wife and two children so it was a little crazy with 5 kids, especially when they all got crabby at the same time. Daddy got to sneak out for some golf with Paul, his brother, and dad Thursday morning. He played the best golf of his life for 5 holes and then came back to reality and remembered why he is an actuary instead of a PGA pro. We went out to eat at Moosejaw Pizza before heading home and took some pictures of the kids.
