Two Weeks

Today we took Kayla in for her two-week checkup. Everything is going fine. She is up to 8 lb 7 oz, a little higher than her birth weight, and she has an "average head". She is starting to fit in her 0-3 month clothes now (see pictures below). The blanket she is on was a gift from our friend Vicky down in N Carolina.

An Important First...

First tooth, first steps, first words...but before all those comes the all-important first trip to Michael's Frozen Custard. Tonight Kayla had her first visit to Michael's on Atwood Ave with her parents and her grandmas. She decided to go with a butter pecan turtle sundae (filtered through mommy of course). You can just see the sheer thrill of the moment in her face and know that she will remember this night for the rest of her life.

First Doctor's Visit

We took Kayla to the doctor today for her checkup and everything seems fine. She is back up to 7 lb 13 oz after dropping down to around 7 lb 10 oz at the hospital. Now we just need to alter her nighttime schedule a bit which I've heard might be a little difficult.

I'm posting a video of her from a little after birth (I finally figured out how to upload it at a reasonable size). The little guy trying to reach out and grab her at the end is her cousin Emry (8 months). You can hear Lynda in the background on the webcam with the proud grandparents in Ohio.

First Day Home

We made it home safely from the hospital today. Kayla was down to 7 lb, 10 oz as of last night. Everyone is happy to be out of the hospital so we don't have the constant parade of nurses & doctors checking in on us.

More Pictures & Her First Snowstorm

Here are some more pictures of little Kayla from her first full day of life. Since the roads are apparently pure ice and about 10 inches of snow is expected this afternoon, we will be spending an extra day in the hospital.

Welcome Kayla Nicole!!!

Kayla Nicole Ferris was born at 8:43 PM on Friday, February 15th at Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. She weighed 8 lb 5 oz and was 21 inches long, with a full head of hair! The "official" labor was about 25 hours although mom had a few rough days beforehand as well. Mom and baby are doing well now and everyone is trying to catch up on sleep.

Still Waiting...

Baby is two days late now and mom & dad are getting bored. The #1 ranked Miami (Ohio) hockey team has a couple of big games on TV tonight and tomorrow night against Michigan. Maybe the excitement of finally getting to watch her alma mater on TV will send mom into labor. Go Redhawks!!!

Yesterday was the Chinese New Year so our little girl will be born in the Year of the Rat. Doesn't sound all that appealing, but on the other hand, the Year of the Pig just ended which isn't any better. I hope rats have a better reputation in Chinese astrology than they do in American culture.

Nursery Pictures

Since we don't have a baby yet, we will have to settle for posting pictures of the baby's nursery. Mom spent a lot of time painting a giant safari-themed mural on the wall. Hopefully baby will get mom's artistic talent instead of dad's.

Welcome to our blog

We created this blog to keep in contact with friends and family regarding our new baby girl that is on the way. She is due in 4 short days on February 6, 2008. Daddy was hoping she would come today, on Groundhog Day, but so far no luck. There must be some stubbornness in her genes I guess. We will periodically update the site with pictures, videos, stories about our little girl so people can check up on things at their own pace. We hope to have some pictures/videos of an actual baby to put up in the next few days :)
